SUSAN BÖGELS: MINDFULNESS INFLUENCES THE WAY WE RELATE TO OURSELVES AND OTHERS

One of the most remarkable events of the fourth day of the conference was the lecture of Professor Susan Bögels from the University of Amsterdam (Netherlands). In it, she has approached the full or conscious attention (mindfulness) from a family or systemic perspective, showing how the conscious attention of the father, mother or child affects the psychopathology and welfare of the whole family. The Dutch professor has offered data from trials that show beneficial effects of mindfulness in children with different psychopathologies, such as internalizing problems, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or autism spectrum disorders. It has also highlighted the positive effects of mindfulness on mothers with newborn children or on couples who are expecting a baby. Parenting training in mindfulness could be successfully applied online, she noted. Also, the program that applies to children, adolescents, and their parents, Mymind, has shown positive effects, especially in children with ADHD and autism. Finally, she has highlighted the idea that mindfulness aimed at one family member positively affects the rest of the members and that including another family member in the same training, or in a parallel one, also seems to be beneficial.

A great experience to attend this conference of Susan Bögels in #aitana2020!

PRESENTING THE MONOGRAPHIC ON THE PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACT OF THE COVID-19 ON CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

In this last day of the congress has taken place the presentation of the monographic of the Journal of Clinical Psychology with Children and Adolescents entitled "Psychological Impact of COVID-19 on Children and Adolescents" published, thanks to Ediciones Pirámide, by the AITANA Research Group of Miguel Hernández University. Professor Mireia Orgilés, coordinator of the monograph, thanked the authors for their participation and highlighted the high quality of the work. At the national level have participated researchers from the University of Almeria, Universitat Jaume I de Castellón, Universitat de València, Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Universidad Europea de Valencia and the University Miguel Hernández. At the international level, the participation of authors from the University of Roehampton and Durham University (United Kingdom), University of Baroda (India), De La Salle University (Philippines), Universidad Veracruzana (Mexico) or University of Perugia (Italy) stands out.
Mireia Orgilés has highlighted that, at the beginning of the pandemic, there was a lack of consensus on how confinement could affect the mental health of children and adolescents, as well as a lack of scientific studies on the subject, which motivated the publication of this monograph. In total, 11 papers are included, seven analyzing psychological effects, three on risk or protective factors and one paper examining the effectiveness of a preventive intervention.

The participants can download the complete monograph in the "Briefcase" section of the virtual platform and visualize the symposium in the “On Demand” section.
